Annabel and the Witch, the story of a poverty-stricken girl living in Windermere during the Middle Ages, was originally The Prioress's Second Tale, part of my 'Lost' Canterbury Tales project. Alas, the editors of the anthology asked me to remove the tale's prologue and the epilogue so as not to detract from Chaucer's original texts!
Always one to oblige (when it comes to publication of one of my narrative poems), I did just that.
