The story concerns two scientists with completely personalities who are tasked with keeping their Antarctic base ticking over during the winter. Needless to say, anything that can go wrong, does go wrong.
The title of the story, whether I picked it consciously or unconsciously, is similar to my all time favourite O. Henry story, The Last Leaf., which I strongly suggest you have a look at if you haven't done so already.
