Tramp
This week I've been working on a short story based on an incident involving a friend of mine twenty-five years or so ago. My friend, JM, went to a London gym, finished showering, and discovered his clothes and other property had been stolen.
The gym owner's response? "Not my problem, mate. You can pick some clothing from the lost property box to go home in."
I ended up wondering what would have happened if my friend had got involved in an accident and lost his memory? Would he perhaps be mistaken for a tramp? What would his partner think had happened to him?
There was still no real story though, so I wrote from the point of view of a policeman reopening a missing person's case after the missing man's stolen watch turns up for sale.
At 2,000 words, I have great hopes for this story. I'll keep you posted.
